The Nightmare's InvasionMy second project for BANKEE Philippines. Del, my contact from bankee, specifically asked for a thrashed MS diorama similar to the one in hobby japan featuring a MG Qubeley anfd a thrashed MG Hyaku Shiki. He gave me an HGUC Cima's Gelgoog, and a Gundam MKII to work with. Having had several experiences in making battle damaged MS, it was relatively simple to do a thrashed MS. However, the problem was how to present the whole diorama in a better fashion, as presenting a thrashed MS laying on the floor is relatively simple,if not altogether boring. A) THE BASEThe diorama base was made with a medium sized aquarium filter. The design of the filter was especially suited for a hangar diorama so this helped me a lot in cutting down my detailing work. The panels, gates and posts were made with illustration boards and some sprues and some 5 mm styrene pipes, while the raised platforms came from plastic cases of small military figures. The whole base was sprayed with silver gray, and shaded with black for some realism. The marking and warning sign details that were added were printed out markings that I designed myself. Also a damaged floppy disk that was detailed with markings was used as a sort of MS launching hatch. :) B) ADDED DETAILSThe thrashed MS was an HGUC MkII that was mixed and detailed with other MS parts for the the damaged look. I used a soldering iron to make the damaged parts, and I painted the inner sides of the melted plastic with gunmetal to make it look like the internal mechanisms were exposed. Some silver was then drybrushed on the raised plastics just beside the melted parts to enhance the realism, and some black chalk pastel mixed with some thinner was brushed onto the surrounding areas odf the melted parts to simulate the charred look. C) PAINTINGThe main colors used for the Gelgoog was Russian green for the torso and character blue for the limbs, I decided to dress the Gelgoog in gato's colors mainly because I really liked that color scheme.:) As for the MK II, I used Navy blue for the main color, Cowling color for the torso and gold and red for the trimmings. Gunmetal was used to color the joints and weapons of both kits. Finally some Mr. Color Super Clear flat was sprayed on for the finishing touch. D) WEATHERINGWeathering for both kits were done with some black chalk pastel mixed with a little thinner to achieve an overall charred look, and some silver was drybrushed on the edges of the armors to simulate normal wear an tear and also dry brushed on the edges or the damages, to achieve a realistic damaged metal appearance. |
