1/144 MS-09H Dowadge KaiThis is the Dowadge Custom, used by "Rommel the Desert Fox" in the first few episodes of ZZ Gundam. The Dowadge is a variation of the Dom that is specially designed for the desert environment. For some reason, I really like the Dom's design, that's why despite the really bad feedback on this kit, I still wanted one. I found out personally why this kit was hated by those who had it. It was virtually the old Dom, refitted with thrusters, tanks, and accessories in order to recreate the Dowadge. For reference, I included two pictures of the raw unmodified original kit. There's definitely much work to do! I thickened up the chest and the forearm "wrist bands" with Mr. putty in order to keep up with the more modern designs of the doms. I remodelled the visor and made more steeper angled ones using some plastic cards, and hollowed out head and inserted a ball jointed pole stuck with a LED to stimulate a moving monoeye. The hip joints were replaced with ball joints and the side skirt armors were cut off and made mobile in order to give the dowadge more range of movement to enable it for more dynamic poses. Finally I replaced the hands with spare MG fists, and an open hand that was remodelled for a more natural look. I also added extra shoulder armors made from plastic cards to enhance the kits overall appearance. Paints used were Mr. color Hull red, for most of the body parts, Flat black for the chest and trimmings, Sand brown for the belt and tanks, and Gunmetal for the joints and the weapons. As usual, I used black chalk pastel for shading the edges, and dry brushed the scraped areas with silver to achieve natural wear an tear. Finally, spare decals from various MG kits were attached to achieve some degree of realism. I'll soon be finishing up my build up notes, so you all just keep visiting back for updates! |
