1/144 FG Buster Gundam

Photos and Model by: Arvin Lim

This is the Buster Gundam from the Gundam Seed FG line, I was curious about how these new models faired against the UC FG's released sometime before, so I got two of them for the sake of experimentation.

First impressions I had was disappointing. These kits although included some polycaps, had no poseabilty in the elbow, waist and knee area. They kinda remind me of oversized palm top models. But despite their lack of poseability, they have great details and proportions, so these models are really nice, especially for those who are planning to practice their painting skills.

I never actually modified anything when I built this kit. There was the HG Buster Gundam that was already released so I didn't feel the need to mobilize the joints. What I set out to do was to make a display piece by providing him with a proper diorama base. The box art showed the buster under a desert background, so I decided to follow the box art suggestion and made a desert diorama base for it.

The Diorama that I used is mainly made of plaster of paris. The raised detail was made out of small rocks I got from my backyard. I placed them at the corners to create an illusion of sand dunes, to an otherwise plain surface. The textured surface were made from flower pot sand and the small rocks were made also from plaster of paris that was crushed. Main diorama color was a custom mixed sand brown and light gray water based poster color.

Having done so many kits in "weathered" finish, I decided to give the 2 gundam seed kits a relatively clean finish. for the buster gundam, I used a custom mixed beige color scheme, for the main colors of the limbs, dark green for the torso and shoulder armor, a custom mixed red orange for the trimmings, gray for the other joints and trimmings, and gunmetal for the weapons. Panel lines were filled using a gundam marker, and as always, Mr. Super clear flat was used to even out the overall finish.
