1/144 FG Gundam Astray (Blue Frame)This is the Gundam Astray from the Gundam Seed FG line, I was curious about how these new models faired against the UC FG's released sometime before, so I got two of them for the sake of experimentation. First impressions I had was disappointing. These kits although included some polycaps, had no poseabilty in the elbow, waist and knee area. They kinda remind me of oversized palm top models. But despite their lack of poseability, they have great details and proportions, so these models are really nice, especially for those who are planning to practice their painting skills. I never actually modified anything when I built this kit (I was actually just too lazy at that time :P). But I plan to someday bring him up to HG standards, if bandai decides not to release it in HG form :). As of now, I am merely contented with providing it a decent city diorama based that I was experimenting with. The Diorama that I used is mainly made of styrofoam boards, the building and roads were all made with this material. The small details and the main isle was made with some illustration boards, topped with modelling grass. Finally the road markings were custom designed, printed, and cut out by me. :) Having done so many kits in "weathered" finish, I decided to give the 2 gundam seed kits a relatively clean finish. For the Gundam Astray, I used flat white, for the main colors of the limbs, black and gray for the torso and joints, charaster blue for most of the trimmings, and gunmetal for the weapons. Panel lines were filled using a gundam marker, and as always, Mr. Super clear flat was used to even out the overall finish.
