1/144 HGUC MSN-02 Zeong

Plastic model kit by: Bandai
1/144 HGUC Zeong, the panel lines were scribed and patterned after the MSIA Zeong

Nice arms with wire guides to simulate the all range attacks mot to mention fully articulated fingers

Booster array and nice detail under that big heartshaped skirt LOL! :P

Review by: Arvin Lim

First off, the Zeong is a bit pricey for a 1/144 clocking in at 1,299.95 Php! (about 26$ U.S.) (Lucky the owner was there and he sold it to me for a 100 Php discount) the box is as large as the Master Grade GP01Fb's box! (now that's big!).

As I opened the box I saw around 7 runners including polycaps, and the great big heart shaped skirt! 2 identical runners are colored in an olive drab (much like the nataku) and these are for the elbows, mid upper arm, and skirt thrusters, the other runner holds the multi colored pieces (head, Antennas (Antlers), ear thrusters, upper forearm, and midsection), and the rest is colored in a gray (mid blue much like the NT-1's).

Size: You won't notice how massive this guy is just looking at the runners, but after assembling the arms you'll realize that it's more massive than a master grade's arm!

Head: the head is made up of 11 pieces! the internal Jaw, neck, internal head piece, mouth piece, 2 ear trhusters, 2 antlers, two ear pieces, and a helmet like forehead, all nicely detailed, I have one rant about the neck though, but i'll go on the details later.

Upper arms: There's only one thing to describe them, MAssive!, i've never seen such massive arms in a 1/144 before, I mean the CCA Mech's arms look like they were kid's arms when compared with the Zeong's, it's actually even bigger than my MG GP01fb's arms. the shoulder armor is well done, and the designers made sure that it will never droop. the arm attachments are a mix of the HGUC GP01's (body to shoulder armor) and the 1/144 Kampfers'(Armore to upper arm). My only downside here is that there are no internal details inside of the shoulder armors, considering it's size, they could've easily carved some inside too. the mid upper arm is chock full of pistons and other details much like the internals of MG's really nice! it's the middle arm alone is made up of 4~5 parts. but the elbow's range of movement is quite limited( about 30 degrees) and it ends with a peg like attachment to the forearm with a hole inb the middle to connect the extra wire attachments.

Forearms: Again these are massive, and it includes enough details to keep any 1/144 fan happy! ^_^ there's nothing extra ordinary about them, but they're not shabby either. the internal wrist attachementis made of a polycap ball joint socket. and it has this external wire attachment to simulate the Zeong's all range attack! but the downside is that there is no polycap between the elbow and the forearm attachment, so I expect it to wear out very easily since it's plastic scratching against plastic.

Hands: This is where the kit shines, it has well detailed hands with movable digits! and it's bigger than any MG hand's that i've seen. plus it is very posable (similar construction with the gogs claws.)

The Chest; The chest is quite retro, and really simplistic, but it really captures that anime look, at the top part of the chest is a sort of lower neck assembly that can allow the zeong to look up or down, but again the connection between the lower and the upper neck is plastic on plastic, no polycaps whatsoever! plus the lower neck attatchment is a square block, which restricts the head movement. I think Bandai fudged up on this one.

The Midsection: First of all there is no axial waist movement whatsoever, (as if the Zeong needed any!) but it could bend quite well in a vertical axis to simulate the flying mode. again the waist alone is made up of at least 5 parts!

A Skirt: the skirt heartshaped with lots of details, especially on the bottom part, and it has five sub thrusters and Two main thrusters to boot!, the five thrusters have plenty of range of motion since they are attached to pegs in the skirts by polycaps. the two main thrusters are attached to a crotch like assembly which I suspect is an assembly for a perfect Zeong conversion! (Yippee!)

Legs: What legs? better wait till bandai releases the option leg parts!^_^

Conclusion The zeong is really a massive mech, and it's size become obvious with this kit which easily outsizes any regular master grades. it is a strange mix of modern and retro designs, which is the trend in most HGUC kits, but Bandai could've made some little modifications to their design, which could easily raise up the rating of this kit to a couple of points.

IMO bandai did a good job, but they could've done better. If you like the Zeong you should get it, just for the heck of it, it's not extra ordinary but it easily is the best Version of Zeong that's out on the market today, even better than it's MSiA counterpart.
