1/144 Zeta Plus Review
![]() Well I just recently finished the Z plus that I acquired from Garrick and I must say that i'm quite surprised by the kit's advanced features (considering it was from a glue together era), and no doubt, it is even better (and I think more HG) than it's HG Zeta cousin. This kit is a strange combination of Glue and Snap together, and I think was one of the precursors to the now standard snap fit assemblies of the modern kits. At first glance, you'll say that it is more or less the prototype for the HG Zeta kit as it bears a striking resemblance in both MS and WR modes, but that my friends is where the similarities end. upon carefully examining both kits the first thing you'll notice are the colors, the HG Zeta is molded with system injection which are molded in final colors (I think that's why they labeled it HG), on the other hand the Z plus is molded in a nice gray and blue scheme (which needs some painting). Upon examining the limbs (arms and legs) you'll notice that the Z plus' surfaces are even more detailed than the HG Zeta's, and that the only advantage of the HG zeta over the Z plus are the multicolored parts. but detail wise the Z plus blows the HG zeta right out of the water (even considering it's age). The Head. The Z plus is quite simplistic compared to the HG zeta which is much more good looking since the Z plus is a little pug nosed. HG zeta wins this area hands down. The torso. The torso for both kits are very similar even in construction, detail wise as i've said earlier, the Z plus' surface are more loaded with details, but since HG zeta's are molded in final colors, both kits are tied up on this area. The arms. Not so much to say here except that the upper arms of the Z plus is even more detailed than that of the HG zeta, I think even the final color moldings of the HG Zeta aren't enough to compare with the fine details of the Z plus' arms. Z plus wins this round. The legs. The Z plus' and the HG Z's legs and even the leg connectors are very similar, however the Z plus' legs are structured in such a way that it allows the Z plus more mobility and poseability than the HG Zeta (actually the lack of leg poseability is the worst flaw of the kit) which again are olus points for the Z plus. Accessories. The HG Zeta comes with a nose cone shield and a long beam rifle, which are quite detailed and very nice, the Z plus however comes with only a Very Long and Big Bad beam Cannon which is more than a match for the HG Zeta's puny weapons. No contest. The transformation. Transformation wise the old Z plus yet again beat's the crap out of the HG Zeta in both appearance and technical sophistication which ends up in a nicely done wave rider mode. both are actually good but the Z plus has a certain meaness about it which makes it more impressive even without fancy colors. The Verdict. Compared with the HG zeta, the Zeta plus is a much better kit, but the HG zeta isn't even half bad too. all in all i recommend getting both of them if you ever happen to find one. Z plus, a really nice kit and my hopes are that bandai will soon release a HGUC version of both kits (hopefully with a construction following in the Z plus' steps rather than the Zeta's).
